Submission Guidelines: Case Reports and Reviews: Open Access

 1. Introduction

Case Reports and Reviews is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality clinical case reports, case series, and review articles across medical and healthcare disciplines. The journal aims to promote the dissemination of clinically significant observations, rare disease presentations, diagnostic challenges, and novel therapeutic approaches that contribute to medical knowledge and patient care. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts that provide clear clinical insights and educational value for clinicians and researchers.

2. Article Type

  • Case Reports – Detailed descriptions of unique clinical cases that provide new insights into diagnosis, treatment, or disease mechanisms.
  • Case Series – Reports describing multiple related clinical cases that highlight emerging patterns or medical observations.
  • Review Articles – Comprehensive analyses of current research and clinical knowledge on a specific topic.
  • Short Communications – Brief reports presenting preliminary findings, clinical observations, or noteworthy case summaries 
  • Clinical Images – Short reports highlighting interesting clinical images such as radiographs, CT, MRI, ultrasound, or intraoperative findings. These submissions focus on key clinical insights with minimal text and high educational value.

3. Manuscript Preparation

  • Title – The manuscript title should be concise and clearly describe the main focus of the study. Avoid abbreviations where possible.
  • Author Information – Provide the full names, institutional affiliations, and contact details of all authors. The corresponding author must be clearly identified.
  • Abstract – An abstract of up to 250 words should summarize the background, case presentation, findings, and conclusions of the manuscript.
  • Keywords – Authors should provide 4–6 keywords that accurately represent the key topics of the manuscript.

4. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should generally follow the structure below:

  • Introduction – Provide background information and explain the relevance of the case or topic.
  • Case Presentation / Materials and Methods – Describe the clinical case or study design in detail.
  • Results / Findings – Present clinical observations, diagnostic results, and relevant data.
  • Discussion – Interpret the findings and compare them with previously published literature.
  • Conclusion – Summarize the key learning points and clinical implications. 
  • Acknowledgements – Authors may acknowledge individuals or organizations that contributed but do not meet authorship citeria.
  • Funding – Authors must disclose funding source or state ‘No  funding.

Note: The structure may vary depending on the article type. Authors submitting clinical images can follow the simplified structure below.

5. Structure for Clinical Images

Clinical image submissions should follow a simplified structure:

  • Title – Clear and descriptive
  • Brief Description (150–300 words) – Clinical context and key findings
  • Images – 1–3 high-quality images (radiology, intraoperative, etc.)
  • Key Clinical Message – 2–3 concise learning points
  • Patient Consent – Mandatory
  • References (Optional): Authors may include up to 3–5 references if relevant to support the clinical context.

6. Figures and Tables

Figures and tables should be used to present data clearly and effectively.

  • All figures must be of high resolution.
  • Tables should be submitted in editable format.
  • Each figure and table should include a descriptive caption.• Figures should be cited in the manuscript text in numerical order.

7. Ethical Considerations

  • Patient Consent – Written informed consent must be obtained from patients when clinical information or images are used.
  • Ethical Approval – Studies involving human subjects should have approval from an appropriate ethics committee where applicable.
  • Conflict of Interest – Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that may influence the work.

8. Peer Review Process

  • All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening followed by peer review.
  • The journal follows a single-blind peer review process, where reviewers remain anonymous to authors.
  • The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding manuscript acceptance based on reviewers’ recommendations.

9. Article Processing Charges (APC)

Case Reports and Reviews follows an open-access publishing model to ensure global accessibility of research. Article Processing Charges (APC) are applicable for accepted manuscripts and are charged only after successful peer review and acceptance.

  • Case Reports / Case Series / Review Articles: USD 400–600
  • Clinical Images: USD 150

The journal may offer partial waivers or reduced APCs for selected high-quality manuscripts, early contributors, and special issue submissions at the discretion of the editorial office.

10. References

  • The journal follows the Vancouver referencing style.
  • References should be numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text.

  • Recent studies have reported similar findings in clinical cases [1].

11. Submission Process

Manuscripts can be submitted through the journal’s online submission system available on the website Submit-manuscript  or via email casereports@gnoscience.com.

Authors should ensure that the following files are included:

  • Manuscript document
  • Figures and tables
  • Cover letter
  • Ethical approval or consent documents if applicable 

12. Copyright and Licensing

All articles published in Case Reports and Reviews are made available under an open-access license.
Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal the right to publish and distribute the article.
